Facebook’s near sixty billion metaverse
I love Brendan Sinclair’s games biz writing but without fail, I keep coming away with the most cursed business knowledge. Obviously, that’s the peril of trying to accurately write about the videogames and tech biz outside of the bullshit and bluster, and fair enough a lot of the time it’s stuff I had read before but blanked out for my own peace of mind.
Rightly, this stuff gives me the fear. That’s as it should be.
Still, it’s a brain toilet and then some, take this (great) look at the costs of Zuckerberg’s metaverse chasing and what they could have spent the money on instead for example:
First of all, Zuckerberg could have grossly overpaid for Twitter in 2022 by laying out $44 billion when Elon Musk was trying to back out of the deal. And he would have had so much left over he could even add 2024 Twitter to the deal at the $9.4 billion valuation it has sunk to after just two years with Musk at the helm.
Ouch. As the kids say.
Anyway. You should totally read Brendan’s work, it’s the right sort of takes no shit, videogames did this to itself writing that it’s hard not to love.
