Shawn Layden on closures
I am enjoying Shawn Layden’s press tour of late, it’s been a long time since we got an exec happily (and, crucially, obliviously) pointing out why things are kinda shit in games.
The latest clunker comes with comparing closing a studio to pruning a bonsai tree. Which is complete bollocks because it’s nothing like pruning a bonsai tree, it’s just sacking a bunch of really talented people and potentially throwing people out of games entirely. The idea that a studio “forgets” how to make a hit is so ridiculous a statement I wouldn’t even know where to start.
